Tip of the Week: 2 Ways to Restart Your Android Device

When was the last time you actually powered down your Android smartphone and gave it a much-needed restart? Chances are you go way too long in between restarts, but what if the reason you haven’t done so recently is because you can’t? Whether it’s wear and tear on your power button or some other issue, it’s good to have alternative ways to restart your Android operating system. Today, we want to show you how.

Why Restart At All?

Most people don’t power down their devices until they’re forced to by a dead battery, but it turns out there are all kinds of reasons to consider restarting your smartphone on a routine basis:

Restarting your Android device:

  • Clears temporary caches, thereby improving your device’s performance.
  • Disrupts potential cyberattacks that store threats in the device’s memory.
  • Solves issues such as phone slowdown, overheating, app dysfunction, and connectivity problems.

Normally, you’d just hold your power button down until the menu appears, prompting you to restart the device. However, what if the button doesn’t work?

Method #1: The Notification Panel

This method should work as long as your phone’s screen works, and it couldn’t be easier.

When you swipe down on your screen, you’ll see your notification panel. If you swipe down again, however, you’ll see other settings and, notably, a power button. When you press this button, you’ll have the option to restart your device.

The other method utilizes the Accessibility Menu, and we’ll show you how to use that, too.

Method #2: The Accessibility Menu

The accessibility features on your Android device are ideal for those who need a little more text legibility, an easier-to-navigate screen layout, and—in this case—the ability to easily turn the device on or off.

While there are a lot of other great features here to consider, we don’t want to get lost in these at the moment. For now, open up Settings and select Accessibility. From here, tap the option for Accessibility Menu, which lets you control the device from a large menu. Once the slider has been turned On, you can open up the menu and see the various power options.

From here, it’s as easy as tapping Restart. Pretty useful!
